 CARLOTTA ll La scuola de' gelosi
Pacific Opera Project

POP kicks off the new year with the US premiere of Antonio Salieri’s La scuola de' gelosi. POP’s colorful period production of this comedy of errors features some of the best of Salieri’s music, with a plot mirroring Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Complete with table seating, food, and wine, La scuola de' gelosi will be presented on the elaborate proscenium set originally built for POP’s 2023 production of Ercole su'l Termodonte. Kyle Naig will lead from the harpsichord, and Josh Shaw directs.

August 2nd, 2024 Monteleone Theatre, Italy

August 3nd, 2024 Scheggino Theatre, Italy

The wealthy Rambaldo and his mistress, Magda, are entertaining theatrical and literary friends. Prunier, a poet and the lover of Magda’s maid, Lisette, declares that romantic love is back in fashion. No one except Magda takes him seriously. When Prunier sings a ballad he has written about a girl who rejects the love of a king, Magda finishes the song, making up a second verse that tells how the girl falls in love with a student (“Chi il bel sogno di Doretta”). She thinks about her own flirtations and recalls an encounter with a young man at Bullier’s restaurant. â€‹

 SOLOIST ll Serenade to Music
SOPRANO COVER || Brahms Requiem
Long Beach Symphony Orchestra

Our March concert bids a fond farewell to the dark days and starry night skies of winter – and, by the way, don’t forget to turn your clocks forward one hour after this concert for Daylight Savings on Sunday, March 10th – with a program that celebrates the nature of the universe, and the place music holds within it. French composer Guillaume Connesson’s fascinating Cosmic Trilogy explores the entire span of existence as we know it, posing question after musical question and offering gorgeous responses. Ralph Vaughn Williams’ Serenade to Music offers a ravishing paean to the music of the spheres, which reportedly brought audience member Igor Stravinsky to tears at its premiere performance. To conclude a mystical evening, prepare to enjoy Johannes Brahms’ magnificent masterpiece for soloists, chorus, and orchestra, his incandescent Deutsches Requiem. Join your Long Beach Symphony for an early celebration of Spring and new beginnings!
