Biography
Praised for her “full, rich voice” Emily Scott is a New Zealand-Australian soprano and performer based in Los Angeles, California.
A graduate of UCLA and the New Zealand School of Music, Emily made her debut with New Zealand Opera during her residency as one of their Dame Malvina Emerging Artists, singing the role of Clorinda (La Cenerentola).
Emily has performed throughout New Zealand, Italy, and the United States, in operatic roles as Lucette (Cendrillon), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Micaëla (The Tragedy of Carmen), Frasquita (Carmen), Kate Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Assistant A (Womb with a View), and Mary Crawford in the Southern California premiere of Mansfield Park.
She has also performed the abridged roles of Rosina (The Barber of Seville: A Close Shave) with New Zealand Opera’s outreach program, Magda (La rondine), covered Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, and Frasquita in a concert of Bizet's Carmen alongside international talents Kelly O'Conner and Charles Castronovo.
Ms. Scott has been a featured soloist in concert with Long Beach Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, Burbank Philharmonic, and Musica Angelica.
At home in a variety of styles and genres, Emily performed music of the Rogers Family in collaboration with Steven Blier (New York Festival of Song), and in a tribute for Austrian cabaret comedian Hermann Leopoldi with internationally renowned baritone, Vladimir Chernov.
Debuting as a featured artist for Long Beach Opera in their 2020 Songbook with the premiere 'expected face' by composer Katherine Young, Emily has had the pleasure of premiering works by several composers including Peter Golub, Douglas Lilburn, and Vasken Ohanian.
Emily has worked in masterclass settings with international artists Renee Fleming, Simon O' Neil, Stephen Osgood, Hakan Hagegard, Anthony Roth Costanza, and Dolora Zajick.
An avid lover of all genres of music, Ms. Scott also has extensive experience as a choral singer. As a core member of the Catalyst Ensemble, under the helm of Grammy award winning conductor Dr. James Bass, Emily has performed in the Southern Premiere of the oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard (Craig Hella Johnson), and several a cappella recitals; Spain and the New World, Catalyst Christmas, and Music of the Bard, which featured texts of Shakespeare set to music.
In 2024, Emily has performed with The Opera Buffs in a recital series titled Viva l'Opera alongside Sri-Lanken tenor, Emesh Wijewardena, in a Sondheim Tribute Review with the Long Beach Catalyst Ensemble, and in Pacific Opera Project's Cinderella Story in conjunction with WEHO Arts.
In 2025, Emily will be making her role debut as Carlotta in Pacific Opera Project's La scuola de' gelosi, and as Musetta with Opera Italia. She will also be featured in Pacific Opera Project's artist recital series.
